WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Middle Atlantic Conference announced the 2001 Football
All-Star teams, Tuesday afternoon. Lycoming College had nine
student-athletes named to the teams, claiming five first-team
members and four second-team members.
2001
MAC Football All-Stars from Lycoming:
Tim
Deasey (Sr./Norwood, PA; Interboro) – 1st-team
running back
Deasey became the
Warriors’ most prolific running back of all time, setting five
school records during his senior campaign. The records began
falling in Lycoming’s first game when Deasey rushed for 253
yards against Lebanon Valley to set a new single-game rushing
mark. He went on to add most carries in a game (39), most rushing
touchdowns in a game (5), single-season rushing (1,247 yards), and
career rushing (2,868 yards). In nine games during the 2001 season
Deasey carried the ball 234 times for 1,247 yards and 13
touchdowns. He also added 10 receptions for 96 yards and one
score. He ended the season as the MAC’s leading rusher averaging
138.6 yards per game. He also ranked second in the conference in
all-purpose yardage and scoring.
Tom
Zulkowski (Sr./Frackville, PA; Cardinal Brennan) – 1st-team
tight end
Zulkowski was part of
Lycoming’s three-headed receiving threat that combined for 1,617
yards and 14 touchdowns on 105 catches. The six-foot, five-inch
receiver accounted for 40 receptions, 500 yards, and four
touchdowns in nine games. Zulkowski’s 4.4 catches per game
ranked ninth in the conference. He ends his career as a Warrior
with a total of 69 receptions for 938 yards and eight scores.
Josh Albeck
(Sr./Allentown, PA; Central Catholic) – 1st-team
offensive line
Albeck was the lone
senior and the anchor of an offensive line that featured three
sophomores in the starting lineup. Behind that offensive line,
Lycoming rushed for an average of 178.4 yards per game and 4.0
yards per carry. The Warriors’ rushing offense ranked third in
the MAC and helped the team rank second in the conference in total
offense.
Ryan
Rupprecht (Sr./Southampton, PA; Archbishop Wood)
– 1st-team linebacker
Rupprecht was one of
only three returning starters on Lycoming’s defense to start the
year and he led that inexperienced unit to become the best in the
conference by season’s end. The Warriors finished the 2001
season ranked first in the MAC in both total defense and points
allowed, giving up just 249.1 yards and 14.3 points per game.
Rupprecht led Lycoming in tackles with 78, sacks with six and
tackles-for-a-loss with 23 for 91 yards. He also defended seven
passes, recovered two fumbles and forced another. He completed his
collegiate career with 245 total tackles.
Jake Davis
(Jr./Nazareth, PA; Northampton) – 1st-team defensive
back
Davis was one of the
Warriors’ other returning starters on defense and the leader of
a secondary that led the MAC in pass defense. Lycoming’s unit
held opponents to just 143.2 yards per game through the air and
limited opposing quarterbacks to an efficiency rating of 88.5 –
more than 25 points below the conference average. Individually,
Davis ranked ninth in the MAC in passes defended with 14,
including a pair of interceptions.
He also tallied 27 tackles on the year.
Kyle
Bingaman (Sr./Lykens, PA; Upper Dauphin) – 2nd-team
wide receiver
Bingaman was another
component of Lycoming’s three-pronged passing attack. Bingaman
led the trio in receiving yardage with 578 yards on 39 receptions.
He also scored two touchdowns. In the conference, Bingaman ranked
eighth in receiving yards per game with 64.2 yards per contest and
10th in receptions averaging 4.3 per game. He ends his
career at Lycoming with 54 catches for 794 yards and four
touchdowns.
Matt
Mendola (So./Dunmore, PA; Dunmore) – 2nd-team
offensive line
Mendola took over the
starting center position after the graduation of MAC 1st-team
all-star Mike Spagnuolo and Lycoming’s offense never missed a
beat. The offensive line cleared the way for the Warriors to rush
for an average of 178.4 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry.
They also provided the push for 21 rushing touchdowns in nine
games. Lycoming’s rushing offense ranked third in the MAC and
helped the team rank second in the conference in total offense.
Matt
Henrich (Jr./Huntingdon, PA; Huntingdon) – 2nd team
defensive back
Henrich combined with
Davis to lead a young Warrior secondary that was first in the MAC
in both pass defense and opponent passing efficiency. Henrich led
Lycoming and ranked
third in the conference with six interceptions. He also defended a
total of 13 passes and made 33 tackles to rank fourth on the team.
Ricky
Lannetti (So./Philadelphia, PA; Father Judge) – 2nd-team
kick returner
Lannetti provided an
explosive threat to Lycoming special teams as both a kickoff and
punt returner. The speedy wide-out averaged 20.4 yards per kick
return and 10.8 yards per punt return. He ranked fifth and third,
respectively, in the conference in those categories. The highlight
of his season came versus FDU-Madison when he returned
back-to-back punts for touchdowns covering 61 and 69 yards.
